School of Economics and Management (SEM), Dalian University of Technology originated from the National Center for Industrial Science and Technology Management Development (at Dalian) and the Department of Management Engineering founded in 1980. In 1984, the National Center for Industrial Science and Technology Management Development (at Dalian) and University at Buffalo, the State University of New York took the lead in introducing MBA degree education in China, setting a precedent for MBA education in China. In 1985, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Dalian University of Technology established School of Management, which became one of the earliest management schools in China. School of Economics and Management includes 10 research institutes, 5 teaching lab centers and 9 administrative offices, 2 national engineering research centers and laboratories, 6 provincial and ministerial engineering research centers and laboratories, and the largest national management case-sharing platform in China.


School of Economics and Management covers three first-level disciplines, namely Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration and Applied Economics. Its talent cultivation and academic research have formed distinct characteristics, and the teaching and research achievements are consistently ranked among the top of similar higher education institutions in China. It is the pioneer of the management case teaching method in China and takes the lead in the adoption and promotion of the management case teaching method in domestic universities. In the fourth round of discipline assessment in 2017, the discipline of Management Science and Engineering and the discipline of Business Administration both received A-, making it one of the six business schools with two A-level management disciplines in China. In the 2018 professional degree evaluation, the MBA program received A, ranking in the top 7 percent of domestic universities. In the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of national first-class undergraduate programs, undergraduate majors of SEM -- Information Management and Information System, Business Administration and Finance majors have been selected into the national first-class undergraduate programs, and Logistics Management, International Economics and Trade majors have been selected into the Liaoning Provincial first-class undergraduate programs.


School of Economics and Management makes efforts to promote the internationalization of talent cultivation and has the largest number of international students of DUT. As a member of the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS), SEM has established extensive cooperative relations with many universities in the United States, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong (SAR), Macao (SAR) and Taiwan province.


School of Economics and Management has been attaching great importance to international and domestic accreditations, which contributes to the undertaking and internationalization. In February 2015, SEM was accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and became the first business school in northeast China to obtain the international top accreditation. Besides, SEM obtained Chinese Advanced Management Education Accreditation (CAMEA) and European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) respectively in June 2016 and in March 2018. SEM was accredited by The Association of MBAs (AMBA) in April 2021. Thereafter, SEM became the seventh universities in China’s mainland who obtains three top international accreditations and a Chinese Advanced Management Education Accreditation (CAMEA), which is the ultimate accolade for business schools.
