Dalian University of Technology was born in 1949, which was the same year the People’s Republic of China was established. School of Economics and Management(SEM), along with the China’s reform and opening up, was born and flourished.

In order to implement the agreement signed by Chinese and United States governments when Deng Xiaoping visited the United States in 1979, the National Center for Industrial Science and Technology Management Development (at Dalian) and Department of Management Engineering were formally established in Dalian University of Technology in 1980, and School of Management was established in 1985. After nearly 40 years of development and the efforts of several generations of faculty members, we have made proud achievements by adhering to the school philosophy of "Being Practical and Erudition".

We are broad-minded and equipped with an open mind. Teachers with different backgrounds, experiences and characteristics are welcome to start career together. Our fundamental mission is to establish moral integrity in cultivation through education and endeavor, and we strive to build a high-level talent training system, cultivate future entrepreneurs with pursuit, accountability and social responsibility, and contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It is our responsibility to create new knowledge of management based on practice. We welcome managers from the field of practice to join us, and we also encourage researchers of economics and management to further practice and jointly compose management theories with Chinese characteristics.

Looking into the future, we will continue to stay rooted in the fertile soil of China's economic and social development, focus on Chinese cases with an international perspective, and constantly surpass ourselves to build a world-class business school.
